Orange County Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

Kirk Gordon Sladen, 49, of Placentia, died in a motorcycle accident on State Route 243 on December 30, 2008. According to this news report in The Press Enterprise, Sladen collided with a sport utility vehicle on Highway 243 near Highway 74. Sladen was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. California Highway Patrol officials also say Sladen was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

My heart goes out to the family of Kirk Gordon Sladen, who was killed in this Riverside County motorcycle accident. I offer my deepest condolences to them.

According to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Reporting System, there were 29 motorcycle accident fatalities in Riverside County in 2006 and 487 motorcycle accident related injuries.

Based on this newspaper report, it is not very clear exactly how this collision between the motorcycle and SUV occurred. If the motorcycle accident was the SUV driver’s fault, then he or she can be held responsible for the accident and fatal injuries caused. I trust the CHP will also look into whether the driver of the SUV was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If that was the case, he or she could face criminal charges as well.

Sladen’s family would be well-advised to consult an experienced California motorcycle accident attorney who will carefully examine the facts of this case and determine who or what was responsible for the accident and the injuries caused. A skilled personal injury lawyer will also look into whether a dangerous condition on the roadway could have caused this crash. If that is the case, then the governmental agency responsible for maintaining that section of the highway could be held liable. Please remember that any claim against a governmental agency must be filed properly within six months of the incident.

A knowledgeable Orange County auto accident attorney would also advise the family to preserve the motorcycle in its damaged condition so that experts can examine it for product defects, mechanical malfunctions or other evidence. The best Orange County personal injury lawyers will not charge any fees for an initial consultation or case evaluation.
