A party limousine carrying a bride-to-be and her friends celebrating a bachelorette party, crashed with two other vehicles in Santa Clarita injuring nine people.
According to a news report in The Signal, the major injury collision occurred the night of August 1, 2015 after the party limo ran into the back of another car.
Suzette Martinez, who was supposed to get married Aug. 8, suffered seven broken ribs and a punctured lung in the crash. Martinez and her girlfriends were returning after a wine tasting trip to Santa Ynez.
The limo was eastbound on Newhall Ranch Road when it crossed the I-5 bridge and collided with a car at the traffic lights on the east side of the interstate.
Police said the limo ran a red light, struck a car, which in turn spun around and hit another vehicle. Eleven people were hospitalized with injuries.
Three of them, including Martinez, are reported to be in critical condition. But family members said Martinez’s condition is improving and that she may still be able to get married as scheduled.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this collision. We wish them all the very best for a quick and full recovery.
Red Light Violation
Based on this news report, it appears that the limo driver was traveling so fast that the vehicle could not be stopped in time at the red light. We trust officials are looking into what caused the driver to run the red light.
Was he or she impaired, distracted, or traveling at a high rate of speed?
California Vehicle Code section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”
In this case, the limo driver as well as his or her employer (the limo company) can be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses.
Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, scarring or disfigurement, pain and suffering and emotional distress.
Injured victims would also be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that the negligent parties are held accountable.
