Pedestrian Accident In Anaheim Proves Fatal


Pedestrian AccidentRosemarie Huskisson, 63, was killed in an Anaheim pedestrian accident after a pickup struck her near the Anaheim Convention Center.

According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal collision occurred early morning on November 24, 2015 on West Katella near Convention Way.

Police say Huskisson was outside a crosswalk when the pickup truck hit her. She was transported to an area trauma center in critical condition where she

succumbed to her injuries.

The driver remained at the scene. Police do not suspect the involvement of alcohol or drugs in this incident. The investigation is ongoing.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

There were seven fatalities and 107 injuries reported as a result of pedestrian accidents in the city of Anaheim, according to California Highway Patrol’s 2013 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS).

In Orange County as a whole, 52 people died and 784 were injured as a result of pedestrian accidents during the same year.

Based on this news report, officials say the pedestrian was crossing the street outside a marked crosswalk near the Convention Center.

California Vehicle Code Section 21954 states: “Every pedestrian upon a roadway at any point other than within a marked crosswalk or within an unmarked crosswalk at an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway so near as to constitute an immediate hazard.”

The same section also states: “The provisions of this section shall not relieve the driver of a vehicle from the duty to exercise due care for the safety of any pedestrian upon a roadway.”
