Pedestrian Killed in Victorville Hit-and-Run Collision

Dion Levar, 49, was killed in a Victorville car accident, which officials say involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a news article in The Victorville Daily Press, the fatal incident occurred early morning on September 15, 2012 near the intersection of Mojave Drive and West Trail. Levar was found lying on the roadside by a passing ambulance driver and pronounced dead. The driver who struck Levar had fled the scene. The incident is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

My heartfelt condolences go out to everyone who knew and loved Dion Levar for their terrible loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Hit-and-Run Statistics

There were 147 fatalities and 19,009 injuries reported as a result of hit-and-run car accidents in California in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). Of those, 83 fatalities and 2,104 injuries involved pedestrians.

Laws Relating to Hit-and-Run

Based on this news report, officials say that Levar was struck and left to die on a dark roadway. Appalling! What kind of a person would strike and critically injure another human being and then leave him or her lying on the street without care or medical attention? Not only is leaving the scene of an injury crash an inhumane and irresponsible act, but it is also illegal.

California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

Holding Wrongdoers Accountable

I truly hope the hit-and-run driver in this case is apprehended and brought to justice. If you have any information, please visit our hit-and-run website at to offer an anonymous tip and also become eligible to receive a $1,000 reward.

Families of deceased hit-and-run accident victims would be well advised to seek the counsel of an experienced San Bernardino personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A knowledgeable car accident attorney will also be able to determine how their own auto insurance policies might apply to incidents where the hit-and-run driver is not found/identified, or, in a case where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
