Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Baldwin Park Hit-and-Run Crash

Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who they say was involved in a Baldwin Park car accident that left a pedestrian severely injured. According to a news report in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Ramona Boulevard and Stewart Avenue, the night of June 20, 2012. Police say the pedestrian, a 57-year-old Baldwin Park man was crossing the street when he was hit by a westbound vehicle, described as a dark-colored Honda sedan. The driver did not stop. The Honda was last seen going west. The pedestrian suffered significant head injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Baldwin Park police at 626-960-1955.

My heart goes out to this injured hit-and-run car accident victim. I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

There were no fatalities, but 10 injuries involving pedestrian accidents in Baldwin Park in the year 2009, according to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). During the same year, 179 people died and 4,918 were injured due to pedestrian accidents, countywide.

Based on this news account, it appears that the driver of the Honda struck and seriously injured the pedestrian and left him lying on the roadway without care or medical attention. Despicable! It is not only inhumane and irresponsible to leave the scene of an injury car accident, but it is also illegal. Motorists are required under the law to stop and remain at the scene regardless of whose fault the accident may be.

California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also advise victims about how their own car insurance policy applies to an incident where the hit-and-run driver is not found or in cases where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
