A pregnant woman sustained injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after a driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a pizza restaurant. According to a news report in NBC Los Angeles, the injury crash occurred at Pizza Buona at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Alvarado Street in Echo Park. Police say the 20-year-old pedestrian was dragged as a red Acura crashed into the restaurant’s storefront the afternoon of February 21, 2012. Thankfully, her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The driver of the red Acura was driving with a suspended license. A similar accident 20 years ago left a baby dead, the restaurant’s owner said. Apparently, requests to the city to put cement barriers in front of the restaurant have not been addressed.
It is indeed fortunate that the out-of-control vehicle crashed into an empty dining room. It is also a relief to note that the pregnant woman who was struck and dragged by the Acura did not suffer life-threatening injuries. I pray for her swift and full recovery.
Los Angeles Pedestrian Accidents
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 82 fatalities and 2,630 injuries involving Los Angeles pedestrian accidents. Also, countywide, pedestrian accidents claimed 179 lives and injured 4,918 people, during the same year.
What Caused This Crash?
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the restaurant. Police say the driver’s license had been suspended before the incident. However, it is not yet clear what caused the driver to lose control here. I trust officials are looking into whether intoxication, distracted driving, speed, recklessness or some other form of negligence was a contributing factor in this crash.
Compensation for Injured Victims
If the driver is determined to have been at fault, he or she can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. Injured victims in such cases can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to pedestrian accident victims and their families.
