Red Light Runner Causes Anaheim Car Accident

Two cars were involved in an Anaheim car accident later morning on March 3, 2016 after one of them ran a red light. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, a Ford Escape traveling south on South Magnolia Avenue collided with a black Mercedes-Benz going west on West Broadway. One of the drivers ran a red light, but it was not clear which driver did that. The collision caused the Ford Escape to roll onto its roof. The driver of that car was transported to an area hospital. The other driver was uninjured. The investigation into who caused this crash is still ongoing.

OC Crash Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2013 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 18 fatalities and 2,244 injuries involving traffic accidents in the city of Anaheim. In Orange County as a whole, 165 people died and 13,837 were injured due to car accidents during the same year.

Red Light Violation

Based on this news report, it appears that one of the drivers ran the red light and caused this street intersection accident. It is illegal under California to drive through a red light. California Vehicle Code section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

Liability Issues

In this particular case, the at-fault driver can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused to the other parties. If you are involved in a car accident, there are a number of steps you can take to protect your rights. First, make sure you file a police report and obtain a copy of the report.
