Riverside Car Accident Injures Four

Four people were injured in a Riverside car accident, which officials say, involved six vehicles on November 1, 2011. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the injury collision occurred on Lincoln Street and Magnolia Avenue in Home Gardens. California Highway Patrol officials say five vehicles were stopped for a red light at the intersection when a sixth vehicle, a Ford F-250 pickup truck, failed to stop and crashed into the row of vehicles at 40 mph. The chain-reaction collision pushed two cars into the intersection. Four people were transported to area hospitals for treatment. No arrests were made or citations issued, but an investigation continues.

My heart goes out to all the injured victims of this car accident. I wish them all the very best for a quick and full recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Riverside Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 79 fatalities and 2,249 injuries occurred involving car accidents in the unincorporated areas of Riverside. In Riverside County as a whole, 203 people died and 7,974 were injured due to car accidents, during the same year.

Rear-End Collision

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the Ford pickup truck crashed at full speed into the vehicles that were stopped for the red light. It is unclear as to why the driver of the pickup failed to stop. Was the driver speeding, distracted, inattentive or under the influence? Rear-end accidents are often caused by drivers following too closely behind another vehicle or by distracted drivers. California Vehicle Code Section 21704 states that the driver “shall keep the vehicle he is driving at a distance of not less than 300 feet to the rear of any other motor vehicle subject to such speed restriction which is preceding it.”

Fault and Liability

If the driver of the pickup is determined to have been at fault here, then, he or she can be held liable for the resulting injuries, damages and losses. In such cases, injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. They would be well advised to contact an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and help hold the negligent parties accountable.
