Teen Killed in Riverside Rollover Accident

An 18-year-old man was killed in a Riverside car accident the morning of December 27, 2009 has been identified by local authorities as Geovanni Maciel. The Press Enterprise reports that this fatal rollover car accident occurred after Maciel lost control of his Honda Accord west on Lincoln Street in Lake Elsinore. Maciel was ejected from the car and crushed under it. Officials said the vehicle rolled over several times. Maciel was taken to a local hospital where he died shortly after the car accident.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of young Geovanni Maciel for their tragic, heartbreaking and untimely loss. I offer my deepest condolences to them. This victim’s family will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

Rollover Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS) 279 fatalities and 9,925 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in Riverside County. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), reports that 10,000 people die each year in the United States as a result of rollover accidents. That number accounts for one-fourth of all traffic accident fatalities in the country.

Car Accident Causes and Auto Product Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear what caused Maciel to lose control of the Honda. The news report does not mention that Maciel was not wearing his seatbelt. It also does not say whether alcohol or speed played a part in this accident. If I were a member of Maciel’s family, I’d want to know if he got ejected from the vehicle because of a seatbelt defect.

A reputed Riverside car accident lawyer who has a successful track record with auto products liability cases will be able to help Maciel’s family and determine whether product defects, malfunctions or anyone else’s negligence caused this fatal car crash. In any car accident where auto product defects are suspected, the vehicle must be preserved in its current crashed condition, unaltered, so it can be carefully examined by an expert for product defects, malfunctions and other evidence.
