Man Killed in Sacramento Hit-and-Run Car Accident

Adan Brock, 50, was killed in a Sacramento car accident after he was struck by a vehicle on the Interstate 80 near Watt Avenue. According to a news report, Brock was hit by a Mercedes SUV and thrown into the center divide. He died at the scene of the collision. California Highway Patrol officials say Brock may have been walking near traffic lanes early morning on May 18, 2010. It is not clear why he was walking there.

Hit-and-Run Collision

The SUV that struck Brock did not stop and left the scene of the accident. Officials are looking for the hit-and-run vehicle, described as a silver colored 2000 Mercedes ML55 AMG SUV, as well as its driver. Anyone with information is asked to contact 916-443-HELP or 1-800-AA-CRIME. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for any information regarding this accident.

My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Adan Brock for their tragic and devastating loss. I truly hope this hit-and-run suspect is apprehended and brought to justice. Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 28 fatalities and 3,566 injuries involving car accidents in Sacramento. Countywide, 84 people died and 7,874 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Laws and Compensation Issues

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why Brock was on that roadway. Was his vehicle stalled? Was he trying to get help? Whatever the reason Brock was on the freeway, it was the duty of the motorist, who hit him, to stop at the scene and remain there until authorities arrived and until Brock got the help he needed.

Leaving the scene of an accident or hit-and-run is a serious crime under California law. California Vehicle Code 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

In such cases, where negligence or wrongdoing may have been involved, family members of deceased victims would be well-advised to consult with an experienced Sacramento personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the investigation and make sure that the family’s rights are protected. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to advise victims and their families about how their car insurance policy might apply to a hit-and-run crash or a collision involving an uninsured or underinsured motorist.

as anyone who knew “ace” as he was known liked to drink, he did not have a car so he really should not have been where he was, so no one really knows why he was there, what may or not be known is he had been acting odd that day and word is that at some point hours before he was hit a law officer had given him a ride back to his camp, and he had been seen wearing a hospital robe at that time, yes someone out there knows more but no one will come out to say more, and that is the sad part and that is the kind of world we live in now
