San Bernardino Car Accident Leaves Three Dead

Three people were killed in a San Bernardino car accident after two cars collided head-on in Adelanto, the night of February 20, 2010. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, 34-year-old Brandon Vinson was driving south on Highway 395 near Rancho Road, when he went into oncoming traffic lanes. Vinson’s vehicle crashed into a 2003 Hyundai SUV. Two women who were in the Hyundai, 42-year-old Denise Jackson and 20-year-old Patrice Spead were ejected from their vehicles and sustained fatal injuries. Vinson was also thrown from his vehicle and was transported to a local hospital where he died shortly after the crash.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jackson, Spead and Vinson. Please keep these victims and their families in your prayers.

Car Accidents

There were three fatalities and 33 injuries involving car accidents in Adelanto in 2008, according to California Highway Patrol’s traffic accident statistics. Countywide, 263 fatalities and 8,504 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.

What Caused this Accident?

If the details of this news report are accurate, it appears that Vinson, for some reason, lost control of his vehicle and ended up going into opposing lanes of traffic, causing this fatal accident. The question is what made him veer into oncoming traffic. Did he fall asleep at the wheel? Was Vinson under the influence, speeding, distracted or otherwise driving negligently? It is also not clear whether Vinson, Jackson and Spead were wearing their seatbelts. The news report states all three were ejected from the vehicle. If I were a member of these victims’ families, I would have the vehicles examined for auto product defects including seat restraint system failure.

Claim for Compensation

If Vinson is determined to have caused this accident, family members of Jackson and Spead can file a claim against Hinson’s estate and insurance. If seatbelt defects caused any of the victims’ fatal injuries, the auto maker or manufacturer of the defective product could also be held liable. Victims’ families in such cases, would be well-advised to seek the legal counsel of a reputed San Bernadino car accident attorney, who has a successful track record handling auto product liability claims.
