A driver sustained major injuries in a San Bernardino car accident after a head-on collision on National Trails Highway in Oro Grande the morning of September 15, 2010. According to a news report in the Victorville Daily Press, the impact from the crash caused one of the vehicles to overturn. The driver of the vehicle was trapped inside and had to be extricated. That victim was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. The condition of the other driver is not known. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of this two-car crash, which occurred near Robinson Ranch Road.

My thoughts and prayers are with the drivers involved in this injury accident. I wish both of the drivers involved in this San Bernardino collision the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

San Bernardino Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 263 people were killed and 8,504 people were injured in San Bernardino County car accidents. Also, 107 fatalities and 1,925 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in the unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County during the same year.

California Law

Based on this news report, it is unclear what may have caused this head-on collision. It appears that one of the vehicles may have drifted into oncoming traffic lanes. According to California Vehicle Code Section 21651 (a) “whenever a highway has been divided into two or more roadways by means of intermittent barriers or by means of a dividing section of not less than two feet in width, either unpaved or delineated by curbs, double-parallel lines, or other markings on the roadway, it is unlawful…to drive any vehicle over, upon, or across the dividing section.”

Liability Issues

Head-on collisions often have devastating effects, leading to traumatic injuries and fatalities. Victims injured by a negligent driver could seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. An experienced San Bernardino personal injury lawyer in such cases should better advise victims and their families about their legal rights and options.
