Woman Killed in San Bernardino Car Accident

A woman who sustained fatal injuries in a car accident has been identified by officials as 41-year-old Alice Faye Cross. The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports that the fatal crash occurred the morning of June 18, 2010 in the Cajon Pass. Cross was traveling south on the 15 Freeway near Oak Hills Road, when she lost control of her vehicle and veered off the roadway, toward the median. Her vehicle then went into traffic lanes on the west side of the road and was hit by several cars. Cross died at the scene.

My heart goes to everyone who knew and loved Alice Faye Cross for their devastating loss. They will be in my prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

In San Bernardino County, 263 fatalities and 8,504 injuries were reported due to car accidents in 2008, according to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). During the same year, 107 people died and 1,925 were injured as a result of car accidents in the unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County.

Causes and Compensation Issues

Reading this news report, it is not clear what caused this tragic accident. Did an auto product defect or malfunction cause Cross’ car to go off the roadway? What kind of vehicle was she driving? In some cases, the involvement of other vehicles or a dangerous condition on the roadway could also cause a driver to lose control. In such cases, a thorough investigation including examination of the vehicle and interviewing eyewitnesses, will help shed more light on what occurred and why.

If the accident was the result of a vehicle defect, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product can be held liable for the accident and wrongful death. In such cases, it would be in the best interests of families of deceased accident victims to seek the counsel of an experienced San Bernardino personal injury lawyer who has successfully handled auto product liability cases. Such an attorney will also advise the family to keep the vehicle intact for examination, as it becomes the most important piece of evidence should the case evolve into an auto products liability lawsuit.
