Two people were injured in a San Diego car accident the morning of February 14, 2010 after the motorcycle they were on, was struck by another vehicle. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the injury crash between a car and the motorcycle occurred at the intersection of Carlsbad Boulevard and Christiansen Way. The car, which struck the motorcycle, was being driven by a 16-year-old, authorities said. The motorcyclist and his passenger, a woman, were taken to a local hospital with major injuries. The teen driver and her passenger did not sustain any injuries. An investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made yet.
My heart goes out to the victims who were injured in this accident. I hope and pray that they recover quickly and completely from their serious injuries.
According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were no fatalities, but 49 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Carlsbad. Countywide, motorcycle accidents claimed 51 lives and injured 1,081 people in 2008.
There are not too many details in this report. It is not clear how or why this collision may have occurred. A large number of motorcycle accidents occur when the other vehicle is making a left turn at the intersection. In this case, it seems that the accident may have occurred when the driver was making a turn at the intersection. It may have also been a rear-end collision, which can also cause devastating injuries to motorcyclists and their passengers.
Where negligence is suspected, motorcycle accident victims would be well-advised to contact a reputed San Diego personal injury attorney who will analyze all aspects of the accident and ensure that the victims’ rights are protected. If the accident was caused by a dangerous intersection or roadway, the city or governmental entity responsible for maintaining that roadway could also be held liable. California Governmental Code section 911.2 states that a personal injury claim against a governmental agency must be filed within six months of the accident or injury.
