Teen Bicyclist Injured in Riverside Car Accident

Tyler Rosen, 18, was injured in a Riverside car accident when a car struck his bicycle, the night of July 30, 2011. According to a news report in The Press Enterprise, the injury bicycle accident occurred on Hamner Avenue, near Citrus, in Norco. The teen bicyclist sustained critical injuries in the crash. It is not clear what caused the oncoming car to strike to bicyclist or if the driver will be cited for the collision. The serious injury accident remains under investigation.

My thoughts and prayers are with Tyler Rosen and his family following this terrible bicycle accident. Apparently, Rosen was hit and critically injured by a hit-and-run driver in January. That accident left him paralyzed. This is the second time he has been critically injured in seven months. Heart-rending! I wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Bicycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), five people were injured in Norco bicycle accidents. During that same year, there were seven fatalities and 343 injuries reported due to Riverside County bicycle accidents.

What Caused This Serious Injury Accident?

Based on this news report, the car and the bicyclist were travelling in opposite directions when they collided. It is not clear, however, as to what led to the crash. Was the bicyclist on the shoulder of the road? Did the driver veer out of the lane of traffic? Did the car’s driver attempt to make a turn without yielding the right of way to the bicyclist? Was the driver violating California Vehicle Code Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) by speeding? There are a number of questions that must be answered here in order to determine what occurred and why.

Liability Issues

Injured victims of Riverside car accidents may seek financial compensation for the damages they have suffered by filing a personal injury claim. At-fault motorists may be held liable for losses such as medical expenses, past and future suffering, rehabilitation and lost wages. Additional compensation may be available if the victim suffers a catastrophic injury or permanent disability. Victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all facets of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.
