Leaving the Scene of a Crash
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of minivan was operating erratically. Witnesses say he swerved and struck the boy who was riding his bike in a bike lane. It’s not clear at this point whether the driver was under the influence, distracted or inattentive at the time. By these accounts, the driver of the minivan struck, severely injured the boy and then fled the scene without rendering aid. Leaving a crash scene under such circumstances is a felony crime under California law, regardless of who was at fault for the accident.
Holding Wrongdoers Accountable
Injured victims of hit-and-run accidents are often saddled with expenses and other severe financial burdens while not having anyone to hold accountable for their losses. In such cases, an experienced Anaheim car accident lawyer can help victims and families understand how their own auto insurance policies might apply to a hit-and-run crash where the driver hasn’t been apprehended. In some cases, a dangerous roadway condition may also have caused or contributed to the incident. In these circumstances, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway can also be held liable.
