Ten Injured in Car Crash Outside San Diego Elementary School


Ten people, including nine children and an adult, were injured after a 70-year-old woman drove onto a sidewalk and slammed into a large group of children waiting to be picked up after school. According to an NBC San Diego news report, the crash occurred the afternoon of May 13, 2016. Police say the woman was backing into a parking spot when she hit another vehicle, panicked and put the car into drive and hit the gas. That was when she drove onto a sidewalk and crashed into the waiting children.

Several Victims Reported

The incident occurred at Del Mar Heights Elementary School on Boquita Drive in north San Diego County. Nine children including an 11-month-old baby were injured as was an adult. The baby was in a stroller, which officials said, was pinned underneath the car. Nine children, including an 11-month old baby plus one adult, were injured in the crash. The infant was in a stroller, which authorities said was pinned beneath the car. Several victims were transported to area hospitals including three with traumatic injuries. Police say alcohol or drugs are not suspected. The investigation is ongoing.
