Toddler Killed in Los Angeles Car Accident

By

Hade Sandoval, an 18-month-old girl, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident when a vehicle crashed into a bus stop, the afternoon of March 24, 2012. According to a KABC news report, the fatal accident occurred near the intersection of Mountain View Road and Valley Boulevard in El Monte. Officials say a driver was trying to park the vehicle in a Walgreens parking lot when the car jumped the curb and struck a bus bench where three people were waiting. Hade succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital, the 36-year-old grandmother of the baby has been listed in critical condition and a 12-year-old boy was hurt but listed in good condition. There are no charges pending against the driver at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of little Hade Sandoval who was tragically killed in this collision. My thoughts and prayers are also with the injured victims of this car accident. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Los Angeles County Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), seven people were killed and 430 were injured in El Monte car accidents. During that same year, there were 554 fatalities and 50,817 injuries reported as a result of Los Angeles County car crashes.

What Caused This Tragic Accident?

Based on this news article, the driver mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. Did the accident in fact result from a simple error by the driver or was the driver negligent at the time of the accident? Was the motorist speeding before losing control? Was the driver distracted, under the influence, on medications or suffering from a medical condition? Did the vehicle have defective brakes or a sticky accelerator? I trust investigators are looking into all possible factors in this fatal crash.

Liability Issues

If the driver is determined to have been at fault, he or she can be held liable for the toddler’s wrongful death as well as the injuries to the other two victims. Injured victims or their family members, in such cases, would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
