Two Injured In Irvine Head On Collision


Two men were injured in an Irvine car accident after their vehicles collided head on.

According to a news report in the Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred the morning of November 25, 2014 on Ridgeline Drive between Concordia East and Turtle Rock Drive.

Irvine police said the crash stemmed from a head-on collision between a Ford pickup and a Toyota sedan.

One man in each vehicle
was injured.

The man driving the Toyota, who was in his 80s, had to be extricated from the vehicle. He suffered a head injury and a cut to his arm and was transported to a trauma center. The other man in the pickup, in his early 50s, also sustained a head injury and a possible broken leg. He was also taken to a trauma center in serious condition. The investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing.

Crash Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2012 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were six fatalities and 850 injuries involving car accidents in Irvine.

In Orange County as a whole, 148 people died and 14,029 were injured due to car accidents during the same year.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that one of the vehicles may have left its lane of traffic and collided with the other. However, it is not clear which driver was at fault.

California Vehicle Code section 21651 (a): “Whenever a highway has been divided into two or more roadways by means of intermittent barriers or by means of a dividing section of not less than two feet in width, either unpaved or delineated by curbs, double-parallel lines, or other markings on the roadway, it is unlawful…to drive any vehicle over, upon, or across the dividing section.”
