Two Killed in Los Angeles Motorcycle Accident

Romarino Zeri and his passenger Julie Anne Cameron were killed in a Los Angeles motorcycle accident after their vehicle crashed into a big rig during the annual charity “Love Ride.” According to an NBC news report, the fatal motorcycle accident occurred on the northbound 5 Freeway at Branford Street near Pacoima, the morning of October 23, 2011. California Highway Patrol officials say Zeri and Cameron were moving between the number three and four lanes. During the lane change, the motorcycle struck a big rig. The motorcyclist was run over by the trailer. Both, Zeri and Cameron died at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Romarino Zeri and Julie Anne Cameron for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

Los Angeles Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 35 people were killed and 1,248 people were injured in Los Angeles motorcycle accidents. During that same year, 83 fatalities and 2,719 injuries occurred due to Los Angeles County motorcycle crashes.

What Caused This Fatal Motorcycle Accident?

It is unclear from the report as to precisely who or what caused this fatal motorcycle versus truck accident. In these types of fatal injury collisions, it is important to determine the answers to a number of questions. Did the truck driver fail to look for the motorcycle before making a lane change? Was the motorcycle travelling in the truck driver’s blind spot? Was either motorist speeding, distracted, fatigued or under the influence of alcohol? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to establish precisely what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

If it is determined that the truck driver’s negligence resulted in the accident, the driver and his or her employer may be held liable. In such cases, families of deceased victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. In cases where negligence is involved, the family of a deceased victim can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation to cover medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, loss of love and companionship, and other related damages. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to truck accident victims or their families.
