Ventura Car Accident Injures Two

Two 18-year-olds who were injured in a truck accident in Ventura County have been identified as Joshua David and Natalie Pierson. The Ventura County Star reports that the accident occurred the night of June 28, 2010 when a large truck that was stopped on the shoulder of Pacific Coast Highway failed to yield right-of-way to the van David was driving and pulled into the roadway. David’s vehicle struck the trailer. David suffered broken bones, cuts and bruises while Pierson sustained minor injuries. California Highway Patrol officials are investigating this crash.

It is indeed fortunate that these two young people were not seriously injured in this accident. This could have been a lot worse. I hope and pray that David and Pierson recover soon from whatever injuries they have sustained.

Accident Statistics

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA), truck accident statistics, there were 304 fatal truck accidents and 3,196 injury crashes involving truck accidents, in California, in 2008. In Ventura County, 63 deaths and 3,785 injuries were reported as a result of all car accidents in 2008.

Fault and Liability

Based on this news report, it appears that the truck driver did not yield right-of-way to the van driven by David. It is not clear at this point why that happened. Was the truck driver under the influence? Was he distracted or inattentive? Was the truck driver fatigued? Was he negligent in any other way? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine what happened here and why.

In such cases, injured victims would be well-advised to contact a reputed Ventura personal injury lawyer, who has experience and a successful track record handling truck accident cases. In accidents where injuries are caused by truck driver negligence, the driver’s employer can also be held financially liable for the accident and resulting injuries.

Have you had any close calls with large trucks while driving on the roadway? We would like to hear about your experiences.
