Woman Killed in Orange County DUI Auto Accident

By

April Junhee Whang, 26, of Fullerton was killed in an auto accident the morning of February 1, 2009 after a motorist ran a red light at a La Habra intersection and struck her, The Orange County Register reports in this article. The fatal auto accident occurred at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Beach Boulevard when a 2003 black Mazda 6, driven by 20-year-old Brittany Deanne Shuetze of Irvine, ran a red light and struck Whang’s Integra. La Habra police believe alcohol was involved in this incident. Schuetz is facing felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter charges.

My heart goes out to the family of young April Junhee Whang who was tragically killed in this accident because of the sheer recklessness and negligence of this suspected drunk driver. I offer my deepest sympathies to everyone who knew and loved Whang. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.

Based on this newspaper report, there are just so many things wrong with what the driver of the Mazda, Schuetz, did here. She was apparently driving under the influence, speeding and ran a red light. This is highly irresponsible behavior. I hope she is criminally prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and also held civilly responsible for the accident and in this case, the Orange County wrongful death of April Junhee Whang.

Under California law, a driver may be charged with gross vehicular manslaughter when motorist operating under the influence causes an accident that seriously injures or kills someone other than the driver. California Penal Code Section 191.5 (a) states: “Gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated is the unlawful killing of a human being without malice aforethought, in the driving of a vehicle…and the killing was either the proximate result of the commission of an unlawful act, not amounting to a felony, and with gross negligence, or the proximate result of the commission of a lawful act that might produce death, in an unlawful manner, and with gross negligence.” In addition, running a red light is a violation of California Vehicle Code Section 21453 (a).

April Junhee Whang’s family would be well-advised to retain the services of a experienced Fullerton auto accident attorney, who is particularly experienced dealing with drunk driving accidents. A skilled personal injury lawyer will also look into other factors that may have contributed to this accident such as a dangerous roadway or intersection. Our firm is financially pursuing on behalf of our clients, at least 50 drunk drivers who caused serious accidents and injuries. We believe that these individuals must be made to pay for their irresponsible, illegal and completely unethical behavior that caused serious injury and harm to innocent people. We will not rest until these individuals are held accountable for their wrongdoing.

I’m surprised at the venom you spew at this 20 year old considering that drunk driving is a mult-billion dollar industry for the lawyer class. One wonders what employment you would have if suddenly the entire population decided to stay home at night?

Well Jim, I would like to see your reaction if this was YOUR daughter, sister, friend, girlfriend, wife, Someone you loved or knew. The girl who hit her vehicle was not only speeding, but also ran a red light….Im not sure if you know the law, but a red light means STOP. So whether or not the dumb bitch was drunk she still was a RECKLESS DRIVER and killed another person. So screw the billion dollar bullshit. He is defending a innocent victim from a careless human. And NO, there will NEVER be a time when all will stay at home when drinking…but that does not justify people from driving careless OR under the influence. Oh and by the way your comment is lame, heartless and ignorant. I knew the victim, when I read your comment it made my blood boil.
