Police are looking for a motorist in connection with a hit-and-run accident in South Los Angeles that left a woman dead. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred early morning on September 14, 2016 near 79th Street and Western Avenue. The driver, a male driving a black Chevrolet, struck the woman and kept driving south on Western Avenue toward 80th Street.
The incident is being investigated as a felony hit-and-run. Some people in the neighborhood said the person who struck the victim might have been speeding because there were skid marks on the street. The location where this crash occurred is about half a mile from one of Los Angeles County’s most problematic intersections, Florence and Western Avenues where 30 hit-and-run crashes were reported between 2002 and 2013, according to the Times’ analysis of California crash records.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of this hit-and-run victim. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Based on this news report, it appears that the woman was walking across the street when she was struck and fatally injured. California law requires all motorists involved in accidents to stop immediately and remain at the scene of the crash. Drivers are also required to share pertinent information with other parties involved and most important, assist injured victim. Such assistance could be something as simple as calling 911. We certainly hope that the driver involved in this collision is identified, apprehended and held accountable.
